Gong Xiaobin was selected into the Shandong youth team in 1986. He played for Shandong men’s basketball for 8 seasons throughout his career. He was selected into CBA All-Star seven times and won the Best Technology Award of CBA (1996-97 season), 1 CBA regular season winner (1997-98 season) and 1 CBA regular season MVP(1997-98 season).

In May 2003, Gong Xiaobin served as the head coach of Shandong men’s basketball. His whole coaching career successively worked in Shandong men’s basketball (2003-04 to 2009-10, 2011-12 to 2014-15, 2018-19 to 2020-21) and Qingdao men’s basketball (2015-16 season to 2017-18 season).

Gong Xiaobin was first elected to China men’s basketball in 1989. Throughout his national team career, Gong Xiaobin played in 6 Asian Championships, 4 Asian games, 3 World Championships and 2 Olympic Games, during this period, he followed the Chinese team to win 5 Asian Championships (1989, 1991, 1995, 1999and 2001) and 3 Asian Games Championships (1990, 1994and 1998).
