In 2013, Yu Hongjun entered Central South University for four years, and won the Hunan University Basketball Championship for three consecutive years, and won the National Southwest division championship for two consecutive years, with two pairs of data, the MVP of Southwest competition in 2016 was obtained.
In 2017, Yu Hongjun once represented Central South University in CUBA (Chinese College Basketball League), winning the top four all the way but lost to Tsinghua University in the semi-final and finally won the third place.
In 2019, Yu Hongjun, who was still in the second year of graduate school, became the head coach of the basketball team of Mingde Huaxing Middle School.
In August 2022, Yu Hongjun led Mingde Huaxing middle school to win the national championship of China Junior High School Basketball League from 2021 to 22.
In November 2022, the final of the top six (men’s group) of the U16 basketball championship in the national sports school ended in Chengdu. The Changsha team led by Yu Hongjun won the championship and Yu Hongjun was elected as the best coach of this competition.
